Its Hughes' to Lose

I just found this banner on a LibDem site. It does two things - reinforces the point I made about Mark Oaten (see below) but more importantly shows how frightened of a Simon Hughes victory the Orange Bookers are.

UPDATE: It seems there's also an 'Anyone but Ming' movement too. Check out THIS ARTICLE from today's Scotsman. Getting a bit bloody isn't it? Perhaps Dave Cameron and David Davis should give them a tutorial in how to be nice to each other.

UPDATE: 9pm There are RUMOURS that Mark Oaten might be forced to withdraw. More HERE. Say it ain't so!

What can you say about Simon Hughes? The way he dropped his support for English devolution when Kennedy resigned was almost athletic. One might say he did a DD. :)

But he hasn't dropped his support for an English Parliament. He's spoken of it several times in the last few days.

I happen to think Hughes would be good for the Lib Dems. He's personable and genuine, which will help compensate with the electorate for his being an unreconstructed lefty, and will be able to convincingly attack Brown from the left.

It seems Old Labour may have somewhere to go!

Don't the LibDems use the single transferable vote system? Thus enabling them to get the most inoffensive leader every time...
