John Reid Plays Chicken

I see the new Home Secretary John Reid has pulled out of Question Time on Thursday because he is too frit to be up against Michael Howard. I do hope Question Time will 'empty chair' him and instead of a tub of lard put a stuffed chicken on the table.

Close Iain, they're putting Harriet Harman on.

Maybe it has something to do with Howard's warm up on the Today programme this morning? Excellent move getting him to attack Labour on immigration...

What a surprise! Nick Pisani resigns from Question Time as editor to become Dave's head of presentation.
A week later, this is leaked to the Daily Mail.
Nice to see your pals are keeping in touch, Nick.

Why on earth would Reid fear coming up against Howard. It's a open goal for him. (given Howard's time as Home Sec)

The Tories, with their pay and recruitment freezes, did leave a bit of a mess behind in the Home Office.... however New Labour took that bit of a mess and turned it into a target driven disaster. Had Michael Howard had the same budget that Straw, Blunkett, Clarke and now Reid have enjoyed, things would never have gotten this bad.

To be honest I don't see why any Labour minister goes on that programme. It's a joke.

Michael Howard was the most succesful HS in modern times, in deed, it could be said that every HS before him was a failure. Every indices of crime was controlled under Howard.

Howard is a sinister man, a dangerous authoritarian, but he was the first HS in a generation who was able to turn around crime.
