Allez Les, er Blancs

I never thought I would ever say this, but I want France to win tonight. Easy to day, as they've just scored I suppose. The reason? Zinedine Zidane. He deserves it. And at least it gives me something to agree with Bob Piper about.

UPDATE: Looks like I put the jinx on Zidane, then! He's been sent off. What an idiot.

Well, just so long as you don't pull a Murdoch on us Iain, claiming tommorow that "It was the blog wot won it!". Then again its 1-1 now meaning predicting the winner so you can back him will be difficult...

I'm shocked Iain, how can you support the French! Did you see, an Evertonian scored for Italy.

I'm amazed that you could ever consider supporting France at anything.Another dodgy penalty? After Portugal the French must be the biggest cheats in the competition.

Nah, has to be the Azzuri. Mainly because I know too many Gauls who will be utterly unbearable if they win it again.

Well done Italy.Awful game,Zidanes sending off was the highlight.Pretty much summed this WC up,a charter for cheating.

Rawnsley in the Observer

"Everyone else may be thinking of him in terms of David Beckham. I suspect that Tony Blair secretly compares himself with Fabio Cannavaro and Zinedine Zidane"

The sooner Blair gets his red card the better.

So ZZ made me think: do you judge a person on the best thing they have ever done or the worst?

Zidane sums up the best and the worst of what football is about! What is it about this game that cane turn nice people in screaming thuggish morins?

"screaming thuggish morons" are not nice people.

What I want to know is just what Marco Materazzi said to Zinédine Zidane. It must have been reaaallly offensive.

I mean it can't have been "bet you don't dare to headbut me". There is and idea for a caption competition if anyone can find a picture of it.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that I'm delighted Italy won. Although it wasn't the best game I've ever seen, That penalty shootout had me on the edge of my seat. Spent most of the night celebrating and making phone calls to Italy.

Zinedine Zidane.............well oh well Ian Dale !

It was a terrible game - awful. The far better game was Germany v Portugal

Davide Simonetti.......making phone calls to Italy.

Clearly you are a Euro-Nationalist whereas the English are above such matters taking a "European" view by supporting on non-English team..............why can't people be more like the English and take a broader view of such things ?

Apparently some French business people have asked Zidane to fron their new product it is a spread for bread and crackers. It will be called ZZ as he is the best French Butter

Oleee' Olee' Olee' Olee' Italia Oleee'
Forza azzurri!!!
Although in all honesty for 70 minutes between regular time and extra time, the French bossed it. Both teams had great defences and midfields and the difference was being made by France having up front Zidane and Henry, whereas Italy had Totti (yet ANOTHER disappointing performance) and Toni (sandwitched between Thuram and Galls, poor blighter).
However Italy never lost their head or their nerve, unlike one certain Frenchman, and so it was with a very British display of calmness under pressure that Italy won the cup. Remember Gattuso played for Rangers and Materazzi for Everton...

Bravo, Azzuri! I was at a party with French supporters and I really had to bite my tongue. Had to stuff my face with food as not to laugh.

The head butt moment was brilliant - no doubt Materazzi called M. Zidane's mamam a putain. Great theatre though!

I bet Rooney was green with envy.

Are you sure that this is the old subject on which you agree with Bob Piper? He's listing your blog as his No.2 'left' blog, as well as his No.1 'right' blog.

Is it you or Bob who can't make up their minds? :)
