Miliband Takes a Leaf out of the Prescott Blog

"I think it's called the internet or something. I've only just got to letters, John. I haven't got into all this new technology."

That was John Prescott professing not to know what a blog was on the Today Programme yesterday. Strange that. I seem to remember he wrote his own blog live from the Prescott battlebus during the election campaign. Surely the old bruiser didn't get someone to write it for him? Obviously he set the trend for David Miliband to copy.

He won't go away, though. See? Attention is draining away and being overtaken by new events, and he has prevailed again. Being under Tony's fierce protection has enormous advantages.

The advantage for Tony,of course, is that John keep schtum.

I thought Miliband did write his own blog?

I have a suggestion. If, God forbid, Prezza is still active in politics at the next election, why don't the Tories and Lib Dems in Hull agree on an anti-sleaze candidate. Just as Martin Bell took on Neil Hamilton and won, so somebody should put an end to Prescott's career. The allegations against him are as serious if not more so than those against Neil Hamilton after all.

Good point about the Miliblog. Of course that blog was originally hosted by the ODPM, so presumably this was another example of Prescott not knowing wtf was going on in his own department.

Well god help us when he gets on to numbers!

Tee-hee, he did indeed have his own blog - and it's still there! at http://www.labour.org.uk/jpbattlebus.
If you scroll down to the bottom, you find this lovely quote:
As the bus circled Edinburgh heading for Prestonpans, John sat in the drivers ‘jump seat’, where he campaigned using the bus’ outside speakers.

‘Good morning Edinburgh, this is John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister asking you to vote Labour on May the 5th… Morning ladies, you alright?’

OK, it probably wasn't written by the DPM himself - but I bet he knows what an interblog is!

It really is an extraordinary comment for someone who is meant to be second-in-charge of the UK.

In fact, I honestly cannot believe that anyone who is that ignorant about the internet and has "only just got used to letters" can be in his position. Which leads me to believe that he's not quite telling the truth.

I'm shocked

A Deputy Prime Minister, chairing lots of important cabinet thingies and standing in for the Dear Leader when he's on holiday - is John Prescott ever in charge of the Nuclear weapons thingies ?

No I'm serious - when Blair's unavailable (holiday/dead etc ) who gives the OK to launch nuclear Armageddon ?

That's hilarious!! Just wait while I pick myself up.

Pulsar, it's brother Ed Miliband in Doncaster, young "Potter" Miliband is in South Shields.

No way was Prescott telling the truth when he went on about the "internet thingie" - he was just as usual playing his honest son of toil card. People should not underestimate this thoroughly devious politician - he uses all of it, ranging from the muffed words and overdone accent to the bluster and bluff - for the effect he wants. And it gets him off the hook time and again. Possibly only the end of Blair will end him, and maybe not even then. Wait for it - the Right Hon. John Prescott, Prime Minister of Great Britain.

If that ever happens I'm emmigrating. Would the last person to leave please turn out the lights.

Despite all the cant about the so-called "independent British nuclear deterrant", there is in reality no such thing - time and again when questioned closely about this, experts and officials have confirmed that Britain would have to ask US permission to fire nuclear weapons. We probably can't even launch Trident without their codes, and we certainly can't maintain it. The purpose of the "independent deterrant" purchase (price: £ 50 billion) is to lengthen the production lines in the US to make it affordable for them.

Prescott's blog refers to Rosie Winterton as "an old friend of John’s". What on earth can he mean?

Maybe that explains what happened to the ten year transport plan - it got lost in the post?

"I think its called the internet or something..."
Very, 'umble, John. And its supposed to make us feel he's well meaning but harmless. A con trick that he has mastered and he milks it.
"I think its called the internet or something..."
I'm sure someone must have told him what it was when in 2001 he approved a five year £50m investment in local government for online services! He also just launched a £5m ODPM publicity campaign encouraging citizens to use the internet to contact their local council.
Perhaps we might soon hear John Reid say something like "I think its called the criminal justice system or something..."
He wants us to think he is a buffoon. He's a political con-man and its worked well for him so far.

How very cynical of you, I think you are right. I don't think Prescott is stupid, he has got on very well and attained power and wealth which is a indicator of intelligence. Unfortunately for us his intelligence is limited to the enlightened self interest variety and if he ever becomes PM I too will leave the country.
