While Tony's Away, the Rats Will Play...

So Tony Blair is off to Ramallah on Sunday. Echoes of Margaret Thatcher going to Paris to an international conference in 1990, perhaps? While she was away her downfall was plotted. Mr Blair really should read his history books. Next thing we'll hear is that he is calling the Cabinet in one by one. Imagine the blubbing from Lord Falconer!

If Blair goes Prezza goes, that's the bonus!

And if Falconer goes, maybe we can get our Constitution back.

And is Blair the only British prime minister in history who didn't know we already have a Bill of Rights? Is he the most ignorant British prime minister ever? The worst read? Has he ever read a history book? (No. Obviously.)

But if Prezza goes, what's going to happen to the casino? Oh, dear!

For nine years I have been surviving in Blair's Britain, by taking one day at a time, dreaming of the time when Blair would finally be carted off, these days appear to be almost here. The added bonus to all of this, is that the New Labour Party, may, very well disappear up it's own anus in the process. The Labour Party, whether Old or New have colluded for the past nine years to abandon any sense of morality or reason to stay in power and supported a Prime Minister who has destroyed the Britain that I once felt at home in, far from perfect but, on the whole, decent. This present country is now an alien to me. The whole balance of power in Britain has been taken away from the relatively decent, hard working and in the main law abiding and transfered to criminals, the dross of society and rich foreign financiers (some of these qualify on all counts).

The Labour party appears to me to be obsessed with a collective class hatred (the class system actualy died out years ago in real terms, envy and a belief that anyone who doesn,t share their values is fair game for taxation and repression.

I for one am relishing seeing this evil new Labour experiment flushed down the sewer from whence it sprang. We may even get a Labour Party back that has got a concience.

Goodness - lets hope Tony stays until there's only Gordie left in the government. Like the winner of a children's musical chairs.

This floating voter might have voted for Tony when he was young and handsome in 1997 - but never Gorden! He looks like an elderly Stanley Baxter without the high heels and spangles.

My God, the thought of Gordon Brown running the country for the next few years, with his wierd lower jaw, and his lack of social graces makes me want to jump off a cliff.
He's such a humourless bore.

Verity,

You are the best!

Falconer is a very affable young man, I think I could quite like him as a person, but, as can be gleaned from all the chat about the dome folding all those years ago, you may want to ask what happened when the sale of all the dome bits and pieces went ahead.

There was an absolute disgrace of an auction perhaps a 'sale' even, (advertised within hours of the actual event), of all the kit which had been used very, very little. A whole recording studio went for peanuts!

There is even an urban myth that some of the leases on various sections of the entertainments were in place long after the place was eventually dropped as a venue for anything. This meant we were all still picking up the tab. Like £1m a week for some stalls...( alleged). How many stalls?

I have an awfull recollection that one of the trustees of that enormous bulging folly turned up as a trustee of Equitable Life... but perhaps my memory fails me - as do most things when my blood pressure reaches the same date that I can eventually retire - which is when I am 103.

He probably figures it will be harder for Gordo to harrangue him in the soukh. He might look fetching disguised as Lawrence of Arabia, now that he's a blonde (more fin de siecle photo opportunities, albeit minus the whipping). Am waiting for sightings of Mrs B in full sharia. An improvement on her Kate Winslet moment in the Carribean. You can see the quality of incisive political comment has become, at the end, purely personal.

vlad the impala - V cute monicker, BTW.

I have honestly said from the first day Blair slithered in that one day he would appear in full Florence of Arabia get-up. In fact, over the past nine years, I've said it a lot.

I haven't given up. I mean, it is on the cards. It has to happen. It just feels so right! He is going to make an absolute twerp of himself, thinking he looks rather swank.

How many remember the floor length astrakhan coat he had made up for swanking around the Winter Palace on his visit to Russia? Alastair Campbell was still on board and yanked it out of his suitcase. Pity. It would have been a great laugh.

Well, given the destination and the attitude of it's denizens, the resignation problem might well get solved naturally (and tragically).

Was there any real fact behind the MIx and Wilson resignation ? I've always been curious but have never found any reason to disbelieve the health reason given (yet).

There's always the chance that if Blair hasn't resigned/been dumped by Saturday night and goes to Ramallah, and they actually let him in, that he will be kidnapped and offered for ransome. Personally, I'd pay the kidnappers to keep him... Perhaps not? Prezza would get the job before anyone else sees him off.
