Got a Problem With Seeing This Blog?

Apparently some people have to scroll down for ages before they get to the text and just get a blank white column. I need to find out what the issue is. Could anyone who is having this problem leave a message in the Comments and tell me what screen resolution you are using, are you on a Mac or a PC and what browser (IE/Firefox etc) you're using.

I had the problem this morning, but it seems ok now (has something changed?). I'm on firefox 1.5.0.8 (latest I think)

Iain,

Had trouble with it yesterday evening, as you described. I am using 1024 x 768 resolution on a PC running IE6. No trouble with it at the moment. BTW, 18DS is excellent! Keep it up.

This problem happens on and off all the time when I use Explorer at work, but never happens when I'm using my AOL web-browser at home.

I had this problem earlier but it seems to have cleared up.

I am no Firefox 2, with 16x56 backflubber, configured axiomatically.

It's been happening to me, on and off, for a while. The first occurence wa perhaps a month ago and it lasted for 48 hours or so. It's since happened again on odd occasions but it has been particularly noticable this last 24 hours or so. I've been blaming blogger.com because I never appreciated the page was actually loading until now. I get to see the banner and side bars but the central text and photos fail to load (or so I believed). I'm using IE6.0.2900.2180 on WinXP SP2 with 1280 x 960

I've experienced intermittent problems using both Firefox v1.5 and v2.0. The problem occurs on my home PC and my office PC which is behind a proxy.

This is a problem on my monitor, a Dell 24" 1920x1200, running IE6.

You must have quite a bit of stuff loading up Iain, it can take some time, even on a fast connection.

No problems using Firefox in 1024 x 768 on a Sony Vaio Laptop. No problems in IE7 in 1024 x 768 either. I suggest that thise with problems update Firefox and/or IE to the very latest versions and re-boot regardless of whether or not the installation program asks to re-boot.

I don't have problems seeing the text, but I do get these symbols appearing (รข€™) within the text, usually where there should be an apostrophe or a speech mark. This has been going on for ages. I am using up to date Safari on a Dual Core iMac.

Fixed at 17.20

On the PC [IE6] I used to have a big problem having to virtually go down into deepest Africa to find the posts but that seems to ahve righted itself now, although it is still very, very slow loading.

I thought it was just me. Happened for the first time this morning. Using PC 1024 x 768 res running IE

Forgot to tell you. This morning when I couldn't see text I tried logging onto your site about 10 times and each time the title bar across the top of the page appeared in a different colour. Now it's pink and isn't it usually red? Also seen it in green, blue and purple. Running IE on PC 1024 x 768 res.
Do I need an eyetest?

Im on a state of the art up to date all singing and dancing computer with an experience of having no trouble doing software acrobats with anything, except only occasionally experiencing the symptons outlined in the Headlines of your blog.
It pisses you off rather than anything else and promotes Guido.
Is it to do with too much censoring.

For any wonks out there who think you are colour blind or a little bit confused with the changing colours in Iains blog, dont be, just click on the coloured header and you can change the colour immediately and continuously througout the portfolio of colours on Iains blog.

Hello. This is me in geek mode.

When viewing your blog on my mobile phone - which runs Microsoft Mobile 5 - I have to scroll down for simply ages before I find the posting. The danger is that if I scroll down too much, I am again embroiled in adverts: this makes shorter postings harder to find.

For information, screen resolution is set to 640x480.

Of course, I avoid this problem where possible by using the bloglines.com reader. However, the reader doesn't like displaying your pictures (possibly this is something to do with the URL used to reference them), so I do need to view the site sometimes!

Oh, and Microsoft Mobile doesn't display videos on YouTube.com, although I can watch the video feed from 18doughtystreet without problems.

yeah I've always had this problem but if you leave it for a minute it loads in properly (Using IE6 on a PC)

I've had intermittent problems with it as well. I'm using Firefox 2.0 on a Windows PC at 1280x1024. I had thought it might have been a problem with Adblock, a commonly used plugin for Firefox, but I have also had occasional problems using IE7 as well at the same resolution.

The "white column / huge page length" problem happens almost all the time: 1280x1048, opera901, xpsp2.

Interestingly, on the same pc, ie 6.0.2900 doesn't suffer from the problem.

Had always assumed this blog was unfit for general consumption and that was just one aspect of it!
