Blunkett, Blyers and Blair

It just shows how bad things have got when Sky News have David Blunkett on for at least five hours to commentate on Blair's departure. I gather Stephen Byers was peforming a similar role on ITV. I could sense the viewers switching off in their thousands. The Evening Standard reckons Blunkers trousered a cool £15,000 for his efforts.

Incidentally, isn't it marvellous how David Blunkett's hair is a completely different colour to his beard. I know how he feels. Many years ago, I grew a moustache. It was a bit ginger. It didn't stay long!

If you're in the South East I'll be discussing Blair's departure on BBC SouthEast at 6.30 tonight, Radio Kent from 8.45am to 10am tomorrow and on the BBC1 Poilitics Show at 12.30 on Sunday as well as the BBC News 24 paper review at 11.45pm on Saturday night. In contrast to Mr Blunkett I'll be able to spash out on a couple of tanks of petrol!

Blair challenged us to look at the economy - if anyone has any additional figures that I've missed, please add them to my initial list. You might also like the list of quotes that is building up at Blair Memories - In His Own Words

I never watch ITV News but noticed Alistair Campbell and Ian Hislop on there at lunchtime.

Ian Hislop summed it up by saying it was quite a melancholy statement, I'd tend to agree.

The Labour Party can spin it any way the like but with the majority and time they've had they've achieved little and I think Blair knows it.

Gone was his smug, arrogant, cocky attitude.

Did have to laugh at Gordon Brown & Michael Martin in the Commons this morning.

Newsnight may be worth watching tonight -

"Tonight, in an extended programme, Jeremy will be joined by guests including Alastair Campbell, Michael Howard, Charles Kennedy and David Hare for the definitive assessment of the Prime Minister's time in office."

Apparentyly Brown said of Blair Tony Blair's achievements are unique, unprecedented and enduring.
I feel the ghost of Cherie Blair saying that's a lie.....again

It's Blunkett's utter brazenness that gets me - he's a cheat, and a liar, yet he's all over the MSM like a rash, and no-one sneers at him, they suck up to him!!!!

Blind men have beards for a reason, you insensitive shit.

The BBC must be owned by Gazprom...Putin could not get a more slavish following from his Gazprom-owned media than Blair is getting from the BBC.

It is nauseating. Cloying insincerity.

I seriously doubt that he feels anything about the colour of his beard.

Tony Blair's achievements are unique, unprecedented and enduring...

...for the people of Iraq, Brown added.

'Blind men have beards for a reason' - what would that reason be then?

He obviously goes to a barber, otherwise his beard would be round his waist by now, and with his income, he could afford to go to Trumpers every day.

Iain, I'm very surprised that you haven't remarked on one of the few public appearances in recent years of Alan Milburn ? What is he doing with himself these days ? He was once the great white hope of the Labour party and being hyped as a future PM.

What went wrong ? Was he the first victim [of many] of the Brown sulking steam roller ? Perhaps Brown's web campaign will simply feature a "Rogue's Gallery" of him, Charles Clarke, John Reid and others who have incurred the wrath of the Great Sulking One which a large 48 point font cation entitled 'Where are they now ?'.

Then again, does he need to ? They all know that unless they suck up to him BIG time in the next 7 weeks their careers will be toast anyhow.

I had to turn ITV off this morning.Campbell was such an arse. He actually said, words to the effect, nows not the time to talk about Iraq. What! There's over a hundred soldiers that don't have the time either, not to mention the Iraq families that are also out of time...

Let's all club together to arrange for a hit on the man on or after 28 June. I'm sure the first website to ask for donations would be swamped within minutes.

Blunkett paid £15,000 for half a day's work? If sat on a chair spouting political shite could even be remotely described as work.

If this is true he should stand down as an MP as He is actually being paid by UK Taxpayer 24/7 to be an MP.

Just what is going on at Labour?

Brown increases taxes for the poor yet reduces taxes for the rich.

Blunkett earns more talking in one afternoon than a dinner lady earns working in a year.

i continue my trip around the east of england looking for somewhe3re to live and wish to report yet more real views on bliars legacy.

i was in a tiny village in lincolnshire today and got talking to the landlord of the village pub. he noticed me standing near the speaker so i could hear the "blair broadcasting corp" and we struck up convrsation.

his comments on Bliar can be summarised as follows (i agree with all of them)

:

"he's just a liar"

the entire economy is built on paper money"

"there should be an election"

"he's stolen my pension"

"there is no community spirit here anymore"

"surely nobody believes a word he says anymore"

I wouldlike to add that i was in a pub in Louth ,Lincs the day before during PMQs. I met a bloke called Ted who shared my views on the scumbag bliar and as it turned out went out of his way to help me inmy hunt for somewhere to live.

the bottom line is as follows; the more i travel the country and talk to ordinary people the more certain things become clear;

Bliar is despised and NuLab will be crushed at the next election

gordon brown is hated by ordinary people and will be be completely destroyed in any popular vote

immigration is the single biggest issue in rural England (and guarantees a landslide win for any party that actually adresses the problem)

the labour party are finished as an electoral force outside some muppet northern constituentcies.

hazel blears is the proof that we have evolved "its absolutely right" she is considered an utter retard

Mr Cameron please save us from the scum that is NuLabour

Campbell was on C4 News. Every time the idiot opens his gob, he reinforces how much hatred Iraq has generated, let alone sleaze and spin. This is the high-water mark for Bliar's legacy, and the I-word is the elephant in the room amongst all the gushing. The generous spirit will soon start to dissipate and Bliar will be a non-person by September....wait on Broon doing a Khruschev style denunciation!

Oh dear what a sad deluded lot most of the commentators on this blog are. A political era has come an end - whether you like him or not Blair has a profound influence on this country. But rather than any serious comments or analysis (or even a glimmer of humour), or possibly even thoughts that might actually challenge those you oppose - there has just been an outpouring of bile and hatred and snide attacks against Tony Blair, Cherie (you just couldn't resist could you Verity - and yes I agree you are sick), Blunkett etc.

Has it ever crossed you bitter and twisted minds than you are one of reasons Blair has been able to survive so long is because of the way you behave which sickens most ordinary people - there really must have been time when Blair longed for a world class opposition rather than this current rabble.

Perhaps we should respond in kind by bottling up all this bile and the releasing it when Mrs T pops her clogs - but that wouldn't be very grown up would it?

PS I shall be drinking a rather nice glass or two of red wine tonight.

After all is said and done there is a common thread that runs through everything Tony has done, all the lies, victories, taxes, NI, spin, fending off Gordon and lack of delivery he was one of the "Histories Great B*llshitters" - and I think he would agree with that as well.

Why exactly did the Dear Leader go then?

I'll be watching Question Time in a few minutes.....the legacy will be taking quite a kicking, mainly over Iraq, sleaze and spin. I can never forgive him over Iraq, not so much the initial decision and subsequent cock-ups, but definitely over the subsequent denial that has lasted 4 years and costed the lives of nearly 150 British Armed Forces personnel

I was watching Question Time and felt driven to come back to the PC and post a comment.

This is bizarre. Not just Blunkett, Byers and even Campbell. Mandelson is on Question Time.

I am completely puzzled. If this is the best that Bliar can do with a legacy endorsement, he is really struggling. All of these individuals are thoroughly discredited and detested. You can sense the atmosphere of antipathy towards Mandelson on Question Time. If Blair can't attract any young cheerleaders (whatever happened to Miliburn) then his flame is indeed spluttering out!

Question Time with Mandelson - fascinating.

Watching Mandelson was like watching a snake being clubbed to death. Mandelson lied in claiming that Bliar did not lie. His lie was simple - that there was no dispute over the WMD intelligence. This is a lie, plain and simple. There was dispute, notably amongst experts of the Defence Intelligence Staff and also from the CIA with regard to the ridiculous yellowcake uranium story. I worked in one of the headquarters involved in the attack and (without breaching any secrets of course) the notion that Saddam had WMD deployable within 45 mins or capable of hitting Cyprus was laughed at. Indeed, personnel were being stripped of protective equipment in Cyprus because there wasn't enough for the troops in the Gulf. Mandelson lies - big surprise.

Needless to say, the audience were not convinced (apart from one Labour slaphead toady and his mate in the red tie, Mr Clapping-On-His-Own) and I don't think the Prince of Darkness liked this departure from the "message" and came out with some claptrap about either joining in with the US or abandoning them. Not what Parliament was told as I recall. He may spout all he wants about "respecting" arguments against the war but that it is "unacceptable" to accuse Bliar of lying. As a former Armed Forces officer, if I heard that claptrap and if I was within striking distance, I would find it "unacceptable" not to wring his slimy neck. This does all add up to an interesting reappraisal of the Iraq events, particularly if there is a future inquiry which should really take evidence under oath.

Incidentally, Mandelson is in a pretty pickle. He can't pick up a coronet from Bliar's departing honours list (should that be the "manila list" after the colour of cash-bearing envelopes) as he will have to give up his plum EU job. He can't wait until his EU job expires because Bliar will be long gone by then. To quote the unruly gesticulating child from the Simpsons - ha ha!
