Tatler Magazine has picked its future Tory Cabinet ca 2018... The gorgeous pictures can be viewed HERE courtesy of those lovely people at the Evening Standard. I feel positively ancient.

Jeremy Brier is an incredibly capable and thoroughly sound individual.

One of the others looks like a smug, unpleasant git, and by all reports, is a smug, unpleasant git.

That's all very well, Iain, but they forgot the future Tory PM, ie you or Boris ;-)

I do not think we need a new intake of ivory-towered, well connected Tatlerites. A few more salt of the earth Tories please, prefarably non-metropolitan. They are out there.

You became too old when you bought that double-breasted suit ....

What a bunch of spoilt, pampered, pretentious, over-privileged wank@s - is there a good, solid working class country person among them ?

Metrosexual twits - if that is the future for this country, then suddenly America seems a far more inviting, and meritocratic, prospect.

Who goes round tipping anyone as "a future housing minister"? And can anyone with the name Annunziata Rees-Mogg ever be taking seriously by the aspirant coping classes in Milton Keynes West?

I can't wait to find out. Nicola Blackwood is really pretty, mind...

I take it they didn't bother with Labour as they will still be in the wilderness then.

A little bit hubristic isn't it? They aren't MPs yet and we're not in power. Why ever did they agree to do this?

Helen Whately, 32 - Former national dressage champion, educated at Westminster and Oxford.

Annunziata Rees-Smog, 29 - Youngest daughter of former Times editor Lord Rees-Smog. A journalist who has written leaders for the Daily Telegraph.

Ah, the New Tories. How, exactly, do they differ from the old Tories?

Apart from Kulveer Ranger, all the guys look like sex offenders. Not good snaps...

Why is everything about the West so image and youth obsessed ?

This is the main reason why everything is so krap.

I'm sorry to say this, Iain - but you will look as old to them as they look young to you.

And how many of them would be representing the North, Scotland or Wales, even the token Scot has popped off to London, For us candidates in Northern marginals who wouldn't be so vain nor contemptious and presumptuous of the electorate, I will will await 2018 with great glee.

"Tipped as future trade and industry secretary."

"Tipped to be a future housing minister."

"Tipped to be a future defence secretary."

Really? Or have they just made this up?

Too much for the paper to also publish their degree, job history & record of service to the Party along with the photos, I expect

If you hire mannequins, all you get is puddles of wax when the political heat is turned up.

Mark Clarke: the future anything other than embarrassment?

Still, Tatler does seem to have put less make up on him than he usually does...

Reading Conservative revival (edited Chris Philp), I noticed that in the discussion of making the Parliamentary Party look more like the country Youth was up there with minority and gender.

Class was also in the mix , what happened there?

Iain, you ARE positively ancient..

Shadow cabinet did you say?

This is fantasy-land. All 5 women are very good looking. So not only is there room for only one ethnic englishman, but no room for average of ugly looking women either!

Here we all sits like birds in the wilderness.

Come off it. This lot are air brained models.

But then what else should we expect from Tatler.

Tatler (does anyone buy that mag for toffs?) should change the headline on this to:

"How to plunge the Conservatives into 15 more years in the wildnesss"

...and virtually every one a fully paid-up member of the Political Class.
Would be good to get some *real* into parliament rather than people who have only every done "politics" as a career.

An oxbridge degree doesn't automatically exclude you from being a member of the "working classes" (whatever they are).

At least, that's what my butler tells me.

Hmmm I know, let's show we've got a grip on modern Britain by posing for the shallowest magazine on the shelf... read by elitist clueless social-climbers.

And then get people with zero political awareness to make idiotic predictions that'll just wind up our colleagues.

YOU CAN'T MAKE IT UP.

I see Joanne Cash works in the same barristers' chambers as one Sarah Palin. Is there something we should be told?

bj - you mean Milton Keynes North or Milton Keynes South I think. (Likely, Milton Keynes South, if you wish to refer to the majority of the New City's working-class.)

As for working-class, rural Tories (like, ahem, someone I know) they're all too busy working; trying to put food on the table and keep pace with inflation.

PS - anyone gracious enough to attempt to click through to, ahem, my blog will note that Blogger have temporarily locked it. Miserable wotsits. You can still click past the "warning" page! (Who's being Blogger/Google? Suspect lefties...)

I'm young, good looking and not a toff. Could I be the token commoner?

Finally, someone with a good grasp of dressage to shore up our ailing economy.
I'm amazed the Tory PR machine let this entire spread through but it did give me a good giggle.

Paul Linford said...

Well, even as a leftie I have to admit Nicola Blackwood knocks Hazel Blears into a cocked hat.

I am afraid to upset Helen Whately that I will be MP for Kingston and Surbiton in 2018...local grammar school boy, born and educated in the borough, sound tory credentials....

that is, unless I stay in NYC plotting the downfall of the guns and bibles brigade in America...MWAH HA HA....

What a complete bunch of chinless upper-class cwunts!

Future Chancellor of the Exchequer!? Worked on the Weakest Link and likes Bob Dylan?!

I feel I may have wasted my opportunities. Who knows what I could've achieved with my Economics O Level and John Baez collection!

This all looks horribly upperclass wealthy twit to me. God forbid that Cameron gives us a Government even less in touch with your average British Johnny than the current one.

Bunch of wan**** by the looks of them. Not sure how this is the new conservative party when they still seem to be Oxbridge educated public school types. If any of them had any sense they would never have put on ridiculous designer suits that their potential constituents would never consider wearing. They should have the strength to be themselves not ponce about. If the Tories want to connect with the real people try picking candidates who know what its like to go without or who understand what it’s like to be frustrated by failure but pick yourself up and go on anyway. Beautiful people who never struggled for anything in their privileged pampered little lives will never understand the reality of most of our lives and will always be out of touch.
